Volunteer firefighters have served the city of Slidell and the surrounding area even before St. Tammany Fire Protection District No.1 was established in 1952. Today, due to the growning cost of liabilities, volunteers can no longer serve on the front lines fighting fires; however, the volunteer spirit is alive and well at Fire District No.1.
A new group of volunteers are now serving the community…the St. Tammany Fire Protection District No.1 Louisiana Search and Rescue K9’s and their handlers have been added to the volunteer ranks of District 1. This group serves the needs of our community and others in need of K9 Search and Rescue services.
The community can volunteer in any other aspect of Fire District 1 except suppression.
