1.  What is your fire department budget? 

For 2011, our approved budget is $14,150,082.00

2.  How many uniformed personnel do you have in your department?

We have a total of 143 employees. We also have 13 LaSAR volunteers. The following is a breakdown of uniformed personnel: 122 Suppression personnel, 7 Fire Prevention personnel, 3 Training personnel, 3 Administrative personnel, 8 full time Communications personnel.

 

3.  How many women firefighters in your department?

Currently we do not have any paid women firefighters-But we encourage women who are interested to apply! We have three women in administration and 5 women in communications. There are also several women involved with the LaSAR volunteers.

4.  How many engines does your department have?

We have 7 Front Line Engines and three reserve engines. Of the 7 front line engines, one is a 77’ Quint. We also have a Heavy Rescue Truck, a Hazardous Materials Support Unit, a 100’ Aerial, a 55' Quint, two water tenders and an ALS transport unit (ambulance).

When staffing allows, an 8th engine is staffed to serve the Airport Road area North of I-12

5.  How many fire inspectors does your fire department have?

We have a Chief of Fire Prevention and 6 full time Fire Prevention Officers (two per shift) commissioned by the Louisiana State Fire Marshall’s Office to conduct Building Inspections and Code Enforcement on behalf of the State Fire Marshal’s Office and Fire Protection District No.1. Our Fire Prevention officers also provide year round Public Education and are responsible for Fire and Arson Investigations.

6.  How many fire stations does your department have?

Our fire department currently has 7 fire stations, a training academy and Headquarters. When staffing allows, an 8th fire station is staffed and runs out of the Training Academy.

7.  How many  fires were investigated for arson last year?

All fires are investigated for origin and cause determination including arson. In 2010, STFPD1 responded to a total of 413 fires. there were 105 structure fires of which 91 were residential structure fires.  

 

8.  How many hazardous materials incidents did your department respond to last year?

In 2010 STFPD1 responded to 180 hazardous materials incidents.

9.  What was the date of your last fire fatality?

The last strucutre fire fatality occurred on December 23, 2010.

15. What are the burn regulations for the City of Slidell and the unincorporated areas of St. Tammany Parish surrounding the City?

The City of Slidell has a "No Burn" ordinance within the City Limits enforced by STFPD1. Open burning of leaves, trash (not household garbage) and yard debris such as pine needled, pine cones, shrubs, brush and cut timber is permitted in the unincorporated areas of St. Tammany Parish if Parish Open Burning guidelines are adhered to. NOTE:  If a fire is deemed to be a risk to health or safety it will be extingusihed by the fire department regardless of compliance with the Parish Burn Ordinance.
