With the goal of preventing the incidence of  fire related injuries and fatalities, we provide Fire Safety Education year round to schools, groups, and businesses.  The department utilizes several resources including “Eddie the Fire Truck” and a state of the art portable Fire Safety House. The Fire Safety House is used to simulate smoke conditions in a homelike setting to allow effective demonstration and practice of the principles taught during presentations. A 911 simulator is also utilized to teach proper use of the 911 system. Suppression personnel assist with Fire Prevention Education by demonstrating apparatus and firefighting gear.

As a member of both the local Safe Kids Chapter and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the Fire Prevention Bureau was instrumental in bringing the Risk Watch curriculum to local schools grades Pre-K through 8th. This Injury Prevention Program covers topics including Fire and Burn Prevention, Motor Vehicle Safety, Choking, Suffocation and Strangulation Prevention, Poisoning Prevention, Fall Prevention, Firearms Injury Prevention, Bike and Pedestrian Safety and Water Safety. The Louisiana Public Broadcasting and FEMA sponsored Facts on Fire and Situation Disaster video series are also valuable tools that can be used to reinforce our life safety messages.

In 2008, the St. Tammany Fire Protection District No.1 Fire Prevention Bureau conducted an extremely successful public education campaign reaching 6650 Children and 991 Adults during 85 public education events.
